Updated: Jul 28

From Peace at Adiyogi to the fun ride to Coonoor's Tea Gardens, Ooty's Toy Train & Mysore Palace: Our Fun-Filled Adventure

After two soul-soothing days at the Adiyogi, Isha Foundation, our adventure took a quirky twist as we set off to explore the beautiful hill stations and historic towns of South India: Coonoor, Ooty & Mysore. Buckle up, because this ride is about to get interesting!

Tea, Trees, and a Bollywood Star in Coonoor

Leaving the peaceful vibes of Isha behind, we drove to Coonoor. The journey itself was a treat with green tea plantations stretching as far as the eye could see. And guess what? One of these tea estates belongs to Mumtaz, the Bollywood diva herself! We felt a bit like movie stars too, cruising through her fields.

Arriving in Coonoor, we stopped for lunch at a spot with a killer view. Picture this: sipping tea while looking out over rolling hills. It was like a scene straight out of a postcard. After filling our bellies, we visited a Nilgiri oil factory. The place smelled amazing, and we couldn't leave without buying some fragrant masala tea to bring a bit of Coonoor back home.

The Ooty Toy Train: A Missed Ride but a Photo Op Win

Our next stop was the famous Ooty toy train. Here’s a tip: book your tickets at least three months in advance. We didn't, so we missed out on the ride. No worries, though! We had a blast snapping photos with the cute train parked at Coonoor station. It felt like we were in a classic movie, posing with that vintage charm.

Ooty: Cool Weather and Cozy Vibes

From Coonoor, we rolled into Ooty, just a stone's throw away. We stayed at Hotel Venus, which was as comfy as it sounds. Dinner was at a local joint, and the food was delicious. The weather was the real star here—cool and windy, which was a welcome break from Pune's heat and humidity. This trip was exactly what we needed to unwind and recharge.

Bollywood Magic and Misty Mountains

Day two in Ooty was all about exploring spots made famous by Bollywood. First up was the Pine Forest, where the movie "Raaz" was shot. The place was serene and spooky in the best way possible. It only cost us Rs. 30 to get in, and it was worth every paisa. Then we went to Palamkhet, known for "Raja Hindustani." The tea farms around were draped in clouds and fog, making the whole scene look like something out of a fairytale.

Pykara Waterfalls: Nature’s Melody

Before leaving Ooty, we made a detour to the breathtaking Pykara Waterfalls. The sound of water cascading down the rocks was music to our ears, and the surrounding greenery made it a perfect spot for nature lovers. We spent some time soaking in the beauty and snapping pictures of this serene landscape. It's an ideal place for a picnic or simply to relax and enjoy the natural beauty.

Journey to Mysore: Through the Wild and Into the History

Our journey then took us towards Mysore, but not before crossing through two enchanting jungles. First, the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu, and then, as we entered Karnataka, the Bandipur Forest/Tiger Reserve. The road trip was epic—lush greenery all around, and we even spotted deer, bison, and peacocks. Important tip: these forest roads close in the evening, so make sure to travel during the day.

The Magnificent Mysore Palace

We finally reached Mysore, heading straight to the majestic Mysore Palace. Entry was Rs. 100 per person, and boy, was it worth it! The palace is a sight to behold, especially in the evening when it's all lit up in yellow lights. It's like stepping into a royal fantasy. There are a couple of temples next to the palace too, adding to the historic vibe.
