The Old Me: Closet Full of Dreams, Nothing to Wear

Once upon a time, I used to buy new clothes and neatly tuck them into the “special occasion” section of my cupboard. Weddings, job interviews, and housewarming parties - I had outfits planned and paired with matching jhumkas, just in case.

But life? Life had other plans. And in 2020, it slapped us all awake.

Post-Pandemic Realization: Being Alive Is the Occasion

Ever since the pandemic, my first thought every morning is: "OMG, I woke up? Alive? AGAIN?!"That’s the kind of energy I wake up with now.

So honestly, why am I saving that gorgeous dress for a future event when the biggest event is literally waking up alive?

I Wear My New Clothes on “Normal” Days, And It Feels Amazing

Whether it’s a trip to the local vegetable market or just sitting at home answering emails in style, if the outfit makes me happy, I wear it.

Why wait for a festival or family wedding when the good hair day and good mood is happening today?

Real Talk – I Am the Occasion

Forget the occasion. I am the occasion. And no, that’s not overconfidence, that’s self-love with sleeves and sequins.

If I’m feeling fabulous on a Thursday afternoon, the new kurti is coming out.

Period.

Your Clothes Deserve More Than Just Occasional Appearances

Let’s be honest, why buy new clothes only to let them die a slow, unused death in a zipped cover with naphthalene balls? They deserve sunlight, compliments, and public appearances.

Even if the only “public” is the chaiwala or the cat downstairs.

Pro Tip – Wear That Saree, Take That Selfie (Girls are you listening?)

You don’t need a sangeet to wear that saree. Please put it on. Do your own photoshoot. Tag it #OOTD. You’ll feel like Beyoncé even if you’re just vibing to 90s music in your room.

The Mental Health Bonus Nobody Talks About

Wearing something new lifts your mood. It’s like giving your brain a mini cupcake with glitter.

You feel more alive, confident, and motivated, even if you're just doing basic things like replying to WhatsApp work groups. Small joy = big win.

Final Thoughts: Stop Waiting. Start Wearing.

If you’ve been saving your outfits for “the right time,” this is your sign. The right time is right now. Because no one knows what tomorrow holds, and honestly, your new kurta deserves better than your suitcase.

So go ahead. Wear the dress. Click the selfie. Make your own occasion.

Writing this felt personal and freeing! Honestly, I never thought I'd wear a saree to a regular dinner but now I do it just for fun. What about you? Do you save clothes or wear them immediately? Would love to hear your stories!
