Why I Named My Blog ‘Girl Next Shore’ (and No, It’s Not a Typo)

Hi! Welcome to Girl Next Shore. If you’re here wondering why my blog has this name that sounds suspiciously like a typo—relax. It’s all intentional. And slightly emotional. With a dash of sarcasm. Okay fine, mostly sarcasm. Hehe!

Let’s start from the very beginning (because who doesn’t love a dramatic backstory?): I love the ocean. Not just in a postcard way. I love the sound of it, the smell of it, the way it makes me feel like a small but important part of this giant floating planet. Every time I stand near the shore, I feel calm, alive, and ready to run away from my responsibilities. It’s magical.

I could’ve gone with something like “Wander with Shweta” “Her Travel Diary” or “Girl with a Backpack and Dreams” (you get the idea). But none of them felt like me. They sounded like someone who wears white sneakers and takes tidy notes in a bullet journal. I’m more of a “chappal and chaos” kind of person.

So, I twisted the good old “Girl Next Door” and turned it into Girl Next Shore. Because let’s be honest, the girl next door waters her plants and pays her bills on time. I, on the other hand, keep losing socks and googling beach getaways when I should be working.

But here’s the thing—I don’t just love the sea for how pretty it looks. I love what it stands for. It reminds me that life is not about being still. It’s about moving, flowing, crashing sometimes, but always bouncing back. And that’s exactly how I see travel. Not just as a break, but as a way of living. Of b-living (yes, it’s a made-up word. Yes, I’m proud of it, lol). Because I believe—sorry, b-live—that living is not about counting the days, it’s about filling them up.

If the universe ever decides to be kind and sends me an ocean of money, I swear I’ll travel full-time, try every dessert in every country, and maybe even sponsor my own holidays (and yours too, if I like you enough, I promise!). Until then, I’m here, writing, dreaming, and saving up slowly for the next adventure.

Now here’s the important part: I want each one of you reading this to travel as much as you can. Not just for the ‘Gram. But for yourself. Because travel teaches you life lessons you don’t get in school or on YouTube. It makes you street smart, more patient, better at planning (and unplanning), and helps you trust your gut.

A dead tree
Reflection!

You don’t need to be rich to explore. Just start small. Save a little. Take that weekend trip. Explore your city. Say yes to that train ride. Take pictures. Get lost. Get found. Repeat.

My mantra? Earn → Eat → Sleep → Save → Invest → Travel → Repeat (and throw in a little nap somewhere in there too, because... balance.)

So Girl Next Shore is not just a blog name. It’s a feeling. It’s about staying curious, chasing experiences, and always choosing the long, messy, beautiful road. Whether you’re reading this from a cozy bed or a crowded bus, I hope you find a little spark here to pack your bag and go see the world—one salty breeze at a time.
